Actress Park Shin Hye, who has built strong fan bases across Asia with her dramas, "You’re Beautiful" and "Heartstrings", is set to celebrate her 23rd birthday with her fans.

According to her agency, 4HIM Entertainment, Park Shin Hye will be holding a private birthday party celebration along with her official fan club, ‘Starlight Angel’ members which will take place on February 18th in Seoul.

"Park is really ecstatic that she gets to celebrate her special day with her fans", an official stated, adding that Park has also prepared number of events for them.

Park Shin Hye will also hold a solo fan meeting in Japan. Under the title ‘City of Angel’, the event will take place in a 2,000-capacity stadium, Zepp Tokyo in Odaiba of Tokyo on February 24th.

A representative from her Japanese agency, IMX, explained, "It is rare for an actress to have this large of a solo fan meeting. Park Shin Hye possesses a doll-like appearance and strong acting abilities. We feel that she is acknowledged for being a great actress and the people in Japan like her appearance as well."

In the photo, Kim Tae Hee is sitting in a chair wearing shorts in an advertisement from the past. Something else that catches the eye besides the shorts is her head size. Her head seems unrealistically small compared to the one of the male model's and is half the size of his.

The singer will be releasing a new mini-album on January 18th, kickstarting a new round of promotions. As of now, the plan is to only release it in Korea. However, there have been requests coming in from Japan for a simultaneous release there. YG Entertainment is currently in the process of thinking the idea over.

No information regarding the songs on the mini-album have been released yet. This will be his first release since the digital single "I'm Going Crazy" last September.

To keep up with the fast moving world of K-pop, it’s no longer enough to follow your favorite boy or girl band. These days, fans have to keep track of an ever-changing array of smaller groups that come together almost as fast as they break apart.

These smaller groups are often formed from an already proven success, with bands like Super Junior and After School giving rise to newer and sometimes better versions of themselves before they are absorbed back into the original band or spun off again into another duo or trio.

Orchestrating this wave of constant combinations are the entertainment agencies who train and finance the bands until they turn out a profit.

By breaking down groups and repackaging them, the companies can spotlight individual members of K-pop super groups, which can consist of as many as 10 members or more. Members of the smaller groups are featured for more than just a few seconds each per song and the companies build a stronger fan base for the original group.

According to pop music critic Kim Jag-ga, pop groups need to constantly evolve in order to make a profit for the huge companies that train and finance the bands.

SM Entertainment was the first to try this strategy when it broke the 13-member boy band Super Junior into four smaller groups each with its own style and concept. Two years after the group’s debut in 2005, the company introduced fans to Super Junior T, a six-member group known for trot music hits, Super Junior M, a seven-member group with two Chinese nationals and a hit album released in China and Japan, and Super Junior Happy, a sextet known for its jubilant tunes and the 2008 EP “Cooking?Cooking!” But the most successful group by far has been Super Junior-K.R.Y., a trio of balladeers comprising the three best vocalists in the group. Their album “Fly” from last year has topped charts and the group has toured Japan three times.

The success of these sub-groups has led other major bands to follow their lead, with some of the smaller groups attracting even more attention then the originals.

That was the case with Orange Caramel, a quartet featuring the four youngest members of the girl group After School. The group was formed in 2010 and got their first taste of fame with an EP they released that June. They won fans over with their doll-like appearance and cute performances and they’ve topped online music charts with songs such as “A-ing,” and “Shanghai Romance.”

One of the newest groups to emerge is Rainbow Pixie, which debuted with the song “Hoi Hoi” and consists of three members of the girl group Rainbow.

It’s gimmick is colorful costuming and choreography with lots of waving magic wands.

In other cases, the sub-group directs fans back to the original group.

The duo that is Sistar 19 won fame for its fast songs and short skirts, quickly surpassing the popularity of the four-member group that gave it its name. In its original incarnation, Sistar was known for light and cheerful songs.

Sometimes, the new groups are formed with members from other bands from the same entertainment agency.

Cube Entertainment used this tactic to form Trouble Maker. The popular group was a duo consisting of Hyun-A from 4Minute and Jang Hyun-seung from Beast and its self-titled EP went to No. 1 on various music charts.

But in a reflection of how quickly these groups come together and fade away, Trouble Maker is already part of K-pop history.

A controversy has risen over the cancellation of JYJ’s daily life documentary ‘The Day’, around ten days before its scheduled release.

The situation is growing bigger as JYJ’s agency C-JeS Entertainment has filed a complaint against CJ CGV’s for a breach in their contract and JYJ’s fans have stepped up and begun to boycott CGV.

On Daum Telzone’s JYJ Star Zone, fans began posting photos of their newly cut-up CJ CGV cards. A petition was also begun recently on Daum’s Agora with the title ‘Even their documentary is cancelled.. When will this bullying end for JYJ?’ and signatures are flooding in. With a goal of 100,000 signatures, the petition has already collected over 4,000.

The petition states the following.

JYJ’s fans are in a state of shock once more.

This time, it is regarding CGV’s unilateral contract revocation and cancellation of JYJ’s documentary movie ‘THE DAY’. With only ten days before the movie’s release, that is.

A mere two weeks ago, JYJ’s agency C-JeS couldn’t hide their joy as they revealed on the 19th of January that, “We will be holding a movie screening for the daily life documentary of JYJ that was cancelled last winter.” Fans felt the same way. This movie cancellation can be seen as another step in the ‘group bullying’ process that JYJ have faced, as the CEO of C-JeS himself stated.

” I do not know the specifics of CGV’s internal situation that led to, not a modification of the contract, but a notification of non-fulfillment. However, I would like to say that I find it extremely unreasonable for this decision to nullify the contract to have been made so easily and boldly with the B2B contract already signed and the official announcements sent to the press.”

We demand a clearer explanation from CJ CGV.

We can no longer allow these ‘group bullying’ situations that are happening to JYJ on a regular basis continue on.
Netizens, we ask for you help

As seen in the petition above, the opinion has been brought up that this is a case of group bullying in the entertainment industry.

C-JeS revealed, “The examination of the contract’s specifics was completed by representatives of both sides and a press release was distributed on the 19th, and we received a contract on the 20th,” and “But CGV notified us through a telephone conversation that, “As this is a contract that was not approved by the final arbiter, we will nullify the contract.”

Though CGV stated, “C-JeS sent out press releases and notified the public of the movie’s screening even though the contract hadn’t been finalized,” C-JeS criticized them of creating another instance of ‘group bullying’ due to external pressure and has filed a case against CGV with the Fair Trade Commission.

JYJ’s ‘The Day’ was scheduled to air on cable channel QTV and even had teaser videos playing on the channel but was soon shut down and unable to air on TV.

The reason why a steady stream of external pressure rumors has followed JYJ is because JYJ have faced countless obstacles appearing in broadcasted programs due to their legal dispute with SM Entertainment, the agency of their former group ‘TVXQ’.

Despite the many difficulties, JYJ gained many international fans through their world tour and are planning to perform in South America in March.

Breaking the overseas artist's record of having four shows at the Taipei Dome, with the final show stretching over four-and-a-half hours, when leader Leeteuk saw the sea of color blue ribbons, he finally broke down on stage. Super Junior played to their heart's content on stage, and the members were even drenched at the end, but regardless of how reluctant the fans were at leaving or how long they persist in shouting 'encore', the Taiwan stop of Super Show 4 still had to come to a close. However, they have already made a great amount of irreplaceable memories with all of the group members.

On the fourth performance at the Taipei Dome, the Super Junior members did not show a single hint of being exhausted. Back on October 2011, actor Song Seung Hun along with actress Kim Tae Hee and JYJ‘s Park Yoochun had been selected to be the newest CF models for a new Italian restaurant chain named ‘BlackSmith‘.

The CEO of Black Smith, Kim Seon Kwon held three events from November November 28th last year till the 8th of January, which they auctioned off the CF clothes of their three new celebrity models. The event ended on a high note as the clothes of the Kim Tae Hee, Park Yoochun and Song Seung Hun were a hit amongst their fans.

All proceeds that were collected by Blac Smith through the event were donated to Compassion Korea. It has been revealed that these proceeds will be used to fund a project in Tanzania that plans to provide micro-credit financing to 35 families in Tanzania to help them become self-sustainable.

Actor Hyun Bin and the nation's most in-demand dance group Girls' Generation have been voted as the celebrities Korean workers most want to invite to their year-end parties.

Of 980 office workers surveyed by Hiscott Kingdom, the whiskey-making affiliate of Hite Jinro, 39 percent chose Hyun Bin as their No. 1 pick among male stars, while 35 percent selected Girls' Generation as their top choice among female celebrities.

Office workers also favor relatively simple end-of-the-year parties this year due to the slow economy. In terms of how much they are prepared to shell out, 14 percent answered "less than W50,000," while another 43 percent are prepared to spend up to W100,000 (US$1=W1,130), and 20 percent drew the line at W200,000.

The survey also showed that 65 percent of workers plan to attend between three and four year-end parties in December, while 24 percent are preparing for one or two. Six percent of the busiest social networkers said they plan to attend more than six year-end parties this month.

Super Junior member Kyuhyun’s 2.54-ton rice donation to his hometown Nowon District has been made known, becoming a hot topic.

We were thankful it wasn’t raining. A chilling breeze rustled as SONEs waited patiently around the Best Buy store in Union Square. Armed with blankets, music, and any other form of entertainment, SONEs showed nothing short of sheer determination to camp out in the cold for the sake of seeing Girls’ Generation. Around midnight, a crowd was beginning to gather and before we knew it, we had formed an unofficial line up hours before expected. As the minutes slowly ticked away, SONEs passed time by bonding with each other. The more energetic ones began singing to their favorite Girls’ Generation song, while others simply huddled together for quick power naps. Through the exchange of short conversations, this fandom never ceases to astonish me with its diversity. It’s truly amazing how one event, no matter how small or how short, it can act as a magnet that draws SONEs together. One thousand people from countless cities were present that morning in an attempt to get a yellow wristband that guaranteed a spot for the fan sign event. Only three hundred were able to make the cut.

It wouldn’t have been hard to believe that the seven hundred who didn’t make the limit would just forget about the event and move on with their lives. No, when SONEs began lining up again two hours before the start of the fan sign, the number of people seemed to have increased. Despite the fact that many would never make it to see Girls’ Generation, that didn’t stop them from showing their support. This was Girls’ Generation’s debut on American soil, and SONEs wanted to do everything in their power to spread their love for these nine girls. As the fans waited in front of the store again, SONEs came back with posters and signs. Reporters and curious bystanders stopped to take pictures and ask about the event. They were intrigued. Who in the world was present inside Best Buy to have hundreds of people flock around the store, chanting and cheering? Each and every person standing in this crowd may have come from a different corner of the world; however, at this moment we were able to unite as one. We were able to unite with one predominant thought in mind: We were so proud of Girls’ Generation for coming so far and finally being recognized as a worldwide idol group. SONEs were so proud of them.

As security began to usher those with wristbands into the store, a long line was formed for those without wristbands—a glimmer of hope for a chance to see Girls’ Generation. It didn’t take a long time for this line up to wrap around the building. SONEs were determined, and they would not go down without a fight. Back inside Best Buy, excitement levels were reaching a climax. SONEs were busy chatting away excitedly with one another as they held on to the CD Girls’ Generation would soon sign. Many fans had bought gifts to give them too. From the peapods that Taeyeon adores, to pillows, unicorns, roses and even written messages, SONEs wanted to express their love and support in every way possible.

Before the line started moving, a few selected people were asked to wait by the escalators at the entrance of the store. Some moved away as if they were locked in a daze. Others couldn’t hold back their happiness as it overflowed through tears. They were the lucky few able to attend all three events, as well as the fan sign, entering them for a chance to take a picture with Girls’ Generation! After all the countless hours of waiting until their feet ached, sleeping in the cold and not eating even one proper meal a day, these lucky seven people totally deserved to win! Congratulations!!

As the clock ticked closer to 7pm, a loud cheer of sheer excitement erupted from the front of the lineup. Camera flashes and the blinking of shutters all but overwhelmed our elation to finally see Girls’ Generation—up close! SONEs were going crazy! The event, for everyone present, slowly engulfed us into a surreal reality that many believed could only be visualized in our dreams.

The interactions with Girls’ Generation could never be copied or duplicated as they were unique experiences varied between each and every SONE. Through the exchange of simple greetings, the smiles we wore couldn’t have been brighter. Girls’ Generation really has the power to put people under a spell—to make even the calmest of fans weak in the knees. One by one, SONEs moved across the long table where eight members of Girls’ Generation sat (Jessica left for Korea the day before to film her drama), radiating their goddess-like image and signing our merchandise. The girls laughed with us, spoke with us and showed just how thankful they were of our support. We thanked them for taking the time to participate in this event, and we reminded each and every member how proud we were of their achievements. Girls’ Generation has come such a long way since their debut in 2007. With supporters from practically every country, the world needs to get ready, because right now, it’s Girls’ Generation!

After the fan signing event drew to a close, the streets of Union Square were flooded with ecstatic fans. The feeling for every SONE at that moment was absolute bliss. For many people, this was their first time being only inches apart from Girls’ Generation, and it felt like we were living out a dream. Some were vividly re-telling one another about their experiences with each member while others simply stood, rooted to the ground, staring at their signed album. There was only one word to describe this night: surreal. After this, many SONEs will return to their usual routines. However, this time, the SONE flame inside each of us will burn a little brighter. It will burn brighter as the world slowly readies itself to be dominated by nine girls.

This event was nothing short of fantastic. Officials at Best Buy stated that this was the first time they had to call the police for crowd control since Lady Gaga’s appearance. Girls’ Generation’s US debut was a phenomenal success, and they can walk on confidently knowing that SONEs worldwide will be cheering and supporting them each and every little step of the way.

From March 2nd to the 4th, Big Bang will open their world tour in the Seoul Olympic Park Gymnastic Stadium. Following these shows, the group will tour 16 countries, 25 cities, in Asia, North America, South America, and Europe.

Big Bang recently received the “Worldwide Act Award” during Europe’s MTV Music Awards. (EMA) Big Bang plans on meeting worldwide fans through their world tour.

Earlier we reported that JYJ member Kim Jaejoong headed to Turkey for an individual fan meeting. A photo from the fan meeting has now been published, in which Kim Jaejoong and a Turkish fan are seen bowing to each other.

On February 5th, Kim Jaejoong held a fan meeting at an auditorium in Ankara University in Turkey, when he was pleasantly surprised by an event involving a fan. A fan appeared on stage and, as a token of thanks to Jaejoong, made a deep bow. Following suit, Jaejoong then also bowed to his fan. At that time, the fans in attendance took photos and videos, and by their word of mouth, the media went viral on their country’s internet portal site message boards. “It was quite crazy! At 4 am more fans were arriving, all night they chanted and danced. They also send tweets to the boys of JYJ to know that Peruvian fans were going to buy tickets to see them. Recalls Pearl who study management and international business.

To date, they have released ”The Beginning” (more than 520,000 albums sold worldwide) and “In Heaven” (over 350,000 in Korea). Despite these numbers, without massive publicity, the ticket sales for their concert broke record held by Justin Bieber in our country. The key is in their origin: they are Asian.

The young lovers of oriental culture rarely have the opportunity to see their favorite artists. ”Fans have never had a K-pop (Korean pop) group here. Usually they see them on videos,” explains Christian Uema founder of Noizu Producciones (T/N: Noizu Producciones is the promoter for JYJ’s Concert in Peru).

Indeed, the fans follow them because they are not what we are used to consuming.

“It’s another culture with other type of celebrities. Isn’t the same music that you always listened on the radio like reggaetón” says Naomi Zavala, Member of Red Ocean Club TVXQ.

However, the same features that work for a “boy band” (attractive members, elaborated choreography) also applies to them. “The Asians are known to be good dancers and they do them justice. Their wide popularity wasn’t only because they are cute [laughs]“. Their songs have messages like “Do not be overcome, follow your dreams” and “You are very valuable as a person and woman,” says Madeleine Lerggios, who has followed them since the beginning.

To Christian Uema, the interest that we have now will grow in the upcoming years ”We are always used to seeing American and European artists, but Asians are also good musicians. People who listen to K-pop is increasing.” We will have to keep track of them.

The Girl Scouts of Korea Association appointed CNBLUE as their goodwill ambassador as per Article 5 in their constitution. A representative from the association said, “CNBLUE has a unique color, a variety of talents and charms and also has a broad interest in contributing for social activities, which is befitting with the Girl Scouts’ image, hence they are chosen as our goodwill ambassador.”

The former goodwill ambassadors were Epik High, SNSD and f(x).

CNBLUE will be appointed as the goodwill ambassador on December 8 at 5PM KST at the 13th Girl Scouts International Camp Report Meeting which will gather about 150 participants. The meeting will be held at the International Conference Hall, Seoul Women’s Plaza.

Big Bang will be holding its Alive Tour 2012, a world tour which will travel through 25 cities in 16 countries including those in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The tour will launch with the Seoul concerts to be held from March 2-4.

And so, after being crowned as a representative agent of the global K-Pop boom by the MTV Europe Music Awards with the Worldwide Act Award, Big Bang will finally be stepping out to a bigger world to meet with its global fans.

The Alive Tour 2012 is to be hosted with the global entertainment company Live Nation, which is expected to help the group showcase bigger and better stages and performances for its first world tour.

Live Nation is known as the world’s best concert production company, and has steered the world tours of Madonna and U2 to success. It recently took part in K-Pop performances by helping with promotion in one or two areas of America and Europe, but Big Bang’s tour will be its first Asian venture for which it will be investing in, and thus, will put together an exclusive production team.

Alan Ridgeway, president of Live Nation International, told enews through YG Entertainment on February 7, “We’re happy to be the ones to showcase YG Entertainment and Big Bang to K-Pop fans around the world. These concerts will be a great starting point for the Korea branch we found in December 2011, and we expect it will help expand the K-Pop boom.”

Concert director Laurieann Gibson, a creative director active in directing, choreography and acting, has joined the world tour team as the head director. She most recently took the helm of Lady Gaga’s The Monster Ball Tour, and choreographed her hits Poker Face, Judas and Telephone. She also previously worked with such stars as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Beyonce and Katy Perry and took part in MTV′s Making the Band.

Stage and lighting designer Leroy Bennett, who collaborated with Madonna, Paul McCartney and the Eagles, will also be pitching in along with sound engineer Ken Van Druten, who was in charge of the sound for Eminem, Jay-Z and Linkin Park concerts, and the visual contents production team Possible Production, which produced videos for Kanye West, Jay-Z and Eminem.

A rep from YG Entertainment said, “As it’s the first concert through which Big Bang will be meeting with its fans from around the world, we’re preparing to show them the best concert with the best production team. The world tour, which will start with the release of the group’s new album, will be a set of concerts in which you’ll be able to see how much Big Bang has matured in skill.”

Big Bang will be making a comeback 10 months since its last album with its fifth mini album Alive on February 29.

Girls’ Generation, who had recently made a successful advancement into the American music market, expressed their feelings through a recent interview.

On February 6th, Girls’ Generation members Taeyeon, Sooyoung, Hyoyeon and Seohyun appeared on JTBC’s ‘News 10’ segment ‘Dispatch Interview’.

Sooyoung revealed, “The members all sat together to watch our first appearance on American TV. Even while watching ourselves on TV, we still couldn’t believe what we were seeing, what we had done. And even now we still don’t.”

Seohyun continued, “Even though we were amazed at what we were seeing, we could still point out our mistakes during that performance. So we said to ourselves that we had to make sure to do better next time.”

On January 31st and February 1st, Girls’ Generation became the first Korean artist to appear on the American talk shows CBS’s ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ and ABC’s ‘Live! with Kelly’.

After appearing on these popular talk shows, media around the world began to focus on these girls. America’s famous media news provider, Wall Street Journal, even published an article about the girls’ success and about their future potential.

As soon as the girls returned to Korea, they held a short interview with JTBC’s reporters talking about their visit to America. Taeyeon confessed, “Surprisingly a lot of people recognized us while we were there. Not long ago while we were in Paris, quite a few people had recognized us when we were just looking around the Eiffel Tower. That was pretty amazing too.”

She continued, “It didn’t make us believe that it was because we were popular, but it just made us think that a lot of people must have watched our performance on the show.”

Sooyoung also expressed their hope to perform on bigger stages. “We hope that one day we will be able to perform at music award shows in America, such as the AMA or the EMMYs.”

Lastly, they talked about their wish of having their own private plane. “Not long ago some photos of us resting in the plane were released on a tabloid. If we had our own private plane, then we could rest in peace without having to worry about anything.” They also mentioned, “Also, in order to do a world tour, it would be nice to have our own private plane for that too.”

Following its notable TV appearances in the United States, K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation is set to release an album in France. SM Entertainment announced on Feb. 7 that the band will launch their album “The Boys” through French record label Polydor, an affiliate of Universal Music Group. The new album will be a modified from its original version, similar to the one released in the United States in January.

The official launch of the band’s album in France marks the first time that any K-pop group managed by a Korean agency has mass-produced an exclusive album for the European market.

“Last year, through the “SM Town Live in Paris” concert we were able to see just how popular Girls’ Generation was in France. Through the album’s launch in France we hope that the band will become an iconic K-pop band, active in all parts of the world,” said a representative from the band’s agency.

The band was recently in the United States, appearing on three different TV shows to promote the U.S version of “The Boys,” released on Jan. 17. In addition, the nine-member girl band held its first U.S. fan meeting at a Union Square branch of the consumer electronics retailer Best Buy in New York. More than 1,300 fans flocked to the event, bringing store operations to a temporary halt.

EXID, a new 6-member girl group formed by the famous producer Shinsadong Tiger, is gearing up to make their debut this month. According to the teaser poster, which features a silhouette of the six members with the tagline “Whoz that girl?”, EXID will finally make their debut showcase on February 14th.

On the 7th, the group's agency AB Entertainment updated its official Twitter and announced that rookie girl group EXID will be holding its debut showcase on Valentine’s Day. Girls’ Generation’s Japanese mobile fansite just recently announced that Girls’ Generation will be releasing a re-package of their first Japanese album “Girls’ Generation”, which had originally been released on June 1st, 2011.

The re-packaged album will come with all new photo jackets and visuals. It will also come in three different versions: first press, limited and normal. The first press and limited editions will both come in a special case along with a 36page mini-photobook, and will contain a DVD with “The Boys” (English version) and “Bad Girl” music videos. The first press edition also comes with a two set coaster present, a white and blue version, that will be given out at random at participating stores.

The limited edition comes with a two poster set that is also available at participating stores. The re-packaged album will have a total of fifteen songs, three of which will be re-mixed versions from the Japanese album “Girls’ Generation”. Also included will be songs from the recently released “The Boys” album. As a special present, a song that has not yet been announced will also be included. Pre-order sales begin on December 7th.

Teen Top's Chunji has successfully graduated from High School and is on the road to adulthood. On the 7th of February, Ricky attended the graduation ceremony and even performed in front of his fellow schoolmates, teachers and audience.

It seems that his school made a personal request to him that he make a small performance of Teen Top's latest hit "Im Crazy". Teen Top's Chunji admitted that he was quite nervous performing in front of his family and friends, on an interview he said, "I was asked to perform in the graduation ceremony and I gladly accepted but I was very nervous about it. That was my first time to sing in front of my friends. After that I received my diploma and graduated officially. It's very weird that im not a high school student anymore. Im not a kid anymore and I should act responsible and act as a mature adult."

Chunji is planning to proceed to college this March as he has been accepted to Hanyang University and he will be taking up Music Major. Chunji is also excited to start his college life, as it will be a step to becoming a mature and responsible adult.

Meanwhile, Chunji is busy promoting with Teen Top and recently celebrated their first victory at claiming first place on music shows since their debut.

The Big Bang Theory

In 2006, as Korean superstar Rain, struggled to make it outside his home country, a hip hop group was born under YG Entertainment. Formed through a reality show, the member consists of already-known music personalities. Leader G-Dragon and Taeyang had been with YG Entertainment for six years before joining underground rapper T.O.P, Seungri, and Daesung who were already familiar faces on TV.

Despite the pre-Big Bang fame of these five good looking guys, what brought the band into the radar was their success to conquer Japan, the rest of Asia and eventually the world! Winning the 2011 MTV European Music Award for Best Asia and Pacific Act as well as Best Worldwide Act was really saying something about this band.

Rising Into Fame

Releasing an EP in 2007, Big Bang received two “Artist of The Year” awards the following year. Then, they’re reaching out to neighboring Japan through mini-album and singles. They enjoyed quite a success in Japan the following year, especially after their song “Let Me Hear Your Voice” was selected as J-Dorama titled Ohitorisama. Time Magazine named Big Bang as the most promising South Korean artist to draw success in Japan.

G-Dragon shares the reason behind their expansion to Japan. "Having a market which is several times larger than that of Korea and earning more money are the reasons of why artists [are crossing to] Japan. In Korea, there are many situations that the power of the entertainment companies and TV stations surpasses us, but in Japan everything is made for the artists. This is the greatest blessing that an artist can ever have, the kind that we can’t buy with money."

Surely, after many similar groups, the crowd is looking for something different. Aside from singing slightly different tune adding hip hop and electronic to their songs, it’s the personalities that makes Big Bang unique. "The things each member like or is good at are so different from one another. There are five people with five different colors, we can make our own world so entertaining," Taeyang shares in Big Bang’s Electric Love Photobook.

But T.O.P says that what makes the VIP (their fans) adore them is "the fact that we enjoy ourselves so much on stage, we’ve always thought it’s important to have fun with our fans while we sing and dance."

Struggle Stories

Fame often came with consequences. Big Bang is no exception. The most famous incidents came from its leader, G-Dragon, whose cases range from his solo concert’s age restriction, marijuana smoking in late 2011 and Daesung’s car accident.

While the other member’s struggle has become public’s consumption, each, at one point, had shared their personal fight through interviews and variety shows. In 2010, Taeyang recalls his personal dilemma about pursuing career in the entertainment industry. "It has been three years now and I was starting to feel my limit. From time to time I have been overwhelmed thinking "How should I get through this?!" However one day I started to think that’s not the thing that I should be afraid of"

Other member, Daesung, was faced with stage fright. "When Big Bang debuted, we wanted to break the stereotypical idol image and that was our concept, but I lacked in skills so I got scolded a lot. Truthfully, they didn’t scold me that much. I was the one who kept on digging my own grave. That’s when I had stage fright" he tells GQ.

In the end, what matters is how they react to all the problems and news out there. “I had been wondering whether I should insist on what I was doing or just gave it up and it ended up with the thought of being a singer lingering in my mind. Hence, I knew my choice then,” G-Dragon says.

Comeback Plan

It’s been three years since the band released a full album, so surely the VIP is excited about this. So what should we expect from their comeback? “I think from now on, we just have to do our best like we are doing right now. Then there must be some great results in the future" Taeyang shares.

One thing VIP shouldn’t be worried about is Big Bang will stay the same, even after all the solo projects and infamous incidents in the past years. "[Big Bang is] another family. We go to each other for advice for lots things, not only work. I’m the father, SOL is the mother, T.O.P is youngest brother, D-LITE is oldest brother and V.I is a friend with youngest brother" G-Dragon says with a laugh. Get ready for another Big Bang!

Girls, girls, girls

G-Dragon: I like mysterious-looking girl, but she has to be able to build relationship, has some wit, and good sense. We have to understand each other.

T.O.P: Someone who can grow together with me. The kind with whom I can be at peace because I can trust her.

Taeyang: There’s no reason behind attraction because it’s instant. That’s why it’s hard for me to describe my ideal woman, so there are things I always say in formal interviews. Like, basically, someone who will understand me. You know, the obvious stuff. Someone I can learn a lot from.

Daesung: Someone who will only love me and has a pretty smile.

Seungri: Someone who has a cute phone voice. I also look a lot at physical appearance. If I was really busy and we wouldn’t have time to see each other much, it would make me happy to hear her bright voice on the phone. Since it always cheers you up when you hear the voice of someone you like.

Big Bang Facts

- On tour, G-Dragon shares room with Seungri while Taeyang shares room with Daesung. T.O.P prefers to be alone that’s why he always has his own room.

- There’s a sweet reason behind Seungri’s ever energetic performances. “There are many people who traveled from a far place to see the concert, and in reality, it’s a rare chance for many people to see Big Bang up close so I tend to move around a lot for those people.”

- Whenever he gets nervous, Taeyang will hide in the bathroom and listen to music. "The waiting room is so crowded all the time, so I go to a bathroom. It’s not because of the stomachache from being too nervous.”

- When it comes to food, Seungri hates ginger while Daesung hates eggplant.

- One thing Daesung remembers about landing in Japan for the first time was the cars. "I was really shocked and surprised because the cars were moving by themselves without anyone driving! It turned out that the driver’s seat is on the other side."
